As the New York Knicks continue their downward spiral, their front office is exploring trade opportunities for their expensive veteran players.
Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Knicks are making Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee available leading up to the NBA‘s trade deadline on Feb. 7.
The Knicks could be among the most active sellers prior to the deadline.
Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported on Jan. 13 the Knicks have discussed acquiring Jabari Parker from the Chicago Bulls but were struggling to find a third team willing to take big man Enes Kanter.
Point guard Frank Ntilikina will draw leaguewide interest if the Knicks decide to move on from the 20-year-old, per The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov.
Kanter, Hardaway and Lee are New York’s three most expensive players. While Kanter will become a free agent this summer, Hardaway is owed $18.15 million next season and Lee will make $12.76 million in 2019-20.
Hardaway is averaging a career-high 19.6 points per game, but his 39.2 shooting percentage is his second-worst in six NBA seasons. Lee has only appeared in 10 games this season and is averaging a career-low 5.3 points per contest.
The Knicks (10-36) are 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBA’s worst record.
